List Seller Scams
Throughout the year - especially around major Marana Chamber of Commerce events - we often see an increase in emails offering to sell attendee or membership lists.
To be clear: The Marana Chamber of Commerce does not sell its membership lists. Any personal information collected through our website is securely managed and not distributed for sale.
These emails are typically scams from individuals or fraudulent companies attempting to profit dishonestly. In most cases, these so-called "lists" consist of data scraped from public websites or social media, often containing outdated or false information.
What Should You Do If You Receive One of These Messages?
- If you receive an email directly, report it to the Marana Chamber of Commerce and then delete it. As with other common scams, ignoring these messages is the best approach. However, it is helpful for us to track the issue and identify any recurring offenders. You can forward the message to our office for awareness.
- If a fellow member or business contacts you about receiving such an email, encourage them to report it to us as well. We can communicate directly with the affected individuals to ensure they are informed about the scam.
Sample Response to Share with Members
