Caitlyn Kauffman – Marana High School
Marana Unified School District Superintendent and Marana Chamber Board Member, Dr. Dan Streeter, introduced our principals to the Impact Marana program. Without knowing much about the program, I applied, seeing it as a valuable learning opportunity for myself and a potential connection hub for our students. Despite having limited information, I was accepted into the program and embarked on what turned out to be seven of the most rewarding days of my career.
As the principal of what is likened to a small city, stepping away for a full day is no small feat. Yet, each day spent away from my building was more than worthwhile. Throughout the seven sessions of Impact Marana, I forged strong connections with business owners, Marana High School parents, and community leaders. These connections have led to several MHS students securing internships and strengthened the ties between our Career and Technical Education programs and local businesses seeking to hire a dedicated, Marana-focused workforce.
In addition to these professional connections, I had the opportunity to share my world with those deeply invested in the Town of Marana. Our class met students who showcased their programs and training firsthand, and I was moved by how much these connections meant to both my classmates and my students. I felt a profound sense of pride in highlighting the strengths of Marana’s education system.
Impact Marana was a truly enriching experience, and I am envious of the participants in the second cohort as they embark on their incredible learning journeys. I am forever grateful for the relationships formed during our seven days together, which have provided me with a deeper understanding of the strengths and history of our remarkable community. Moreover, I now have a list of contacts I can reach out to for a friendly chat or professional connection.
This program was unlike anything I have ever experienced, and I hope you take the time to discover what makes Marana, AZ, truly exceptional.
